Review of “Never Surrender Your Soul”

Never Surrender Your Soul

I am very delighted to have read “Never Surrender Your Soul” by Brian Michael Good. It is a self-help/spiritual book with a touch of memoir. The author’s voice and the topics he covers are soothing and uplifting to read.

The book discusses God, religious texts, reincarnation, health, family, work, and life struggles, and deciphers the truth about these subjects. I really like how it emphasizes that you are responsible for your life and in control of your destiny.

It was refreshing to learn about the author’s spiritual viewpoint, which is very compassionate, accepting, and enlightening. The act of reading the book makes you feel serene, hopeful, and motivated to make changes in your life.

Essentially, the book opens your eyes to the truth about important life matters and yourself, provides encouragement to take action on your life, and supports you through the author’s own experiences with the areas he discusses.

The author has clearly done his research on religion, spirituality, parenting, and mental health, because there are references and quotes throughout the book to support his viewpoints, all of which is quite eye-opening!

I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about spirituality, wants to know the truth about religious concepts, and desires to improve the quality of their life. This book is also for those who struggle with mental health issues, for it provides advice on how to get well.

Overall, a well-rounded self-improvement/inspirational book that anyone can benefit from. Highly recommended!

Review of “Growing Pains”

Growing Pains

Growing Pains by K.P. Smith is a Young Adult novel that is enjoyable for all age groups. It chronicles the rollercoaster life of Kendra Foster—an ambitious teenager who struggles with her parents’ disputes and overprotectiveness, who desires to fit in while being herself, and who wants to discover what having a boyfriend is like.

The novel starts out with Kendra waking up to her parents’ arguing and how she comforts her younger sister like a compassionate parent. Kendra already has enough on her mind, since she is going to try out for the cheerleading squad after an embarrassing fall at tryouts two years before. She’s been practicing for months, so she is definitely prepared, but she is still frightful that she will mess up and she doesn’t want to experience that humiliation a second time.

Kendra has other problems to deal with too. She and her best friend—who have been friends since first grade—grow apart as Kendra becomes more outgoing and gets involved in other activities and new friends. Additionally, she has to deal with her own desire to go to the top high school in the area because it is a private school and her parents aren’t rich, so she needs a full scholarship to attend and her grades must be perfect to get one.

There is more. The boy that Kendra has had a crush on for the last five years begins showing interest in her and she has to juggle her desire of wanting to be his girlfriend, wondering if he feels the same way about her, and her parents’ overly strict rules about boys.

One of the biggest challenges Kendra has to cope with is her parents’ clear disliking for one another. All she wants is for the fighting to stop and for them to get along, but the more time that passes, the more she fears it won’t happen.

Growing Pains realistically demonstrates the adolescent struggles of a teenage girl. The situations are unique and the plot is unpredictable. This book is a lighthearted depiction of serious circumstances that any teenager could relate to and it will help them to cope with the most tender and influential time in their life.

If you are a parent of a teenager, you should get this book for you and your teen. You will understand your teen better and they will have a story in which they can relate to and enjoy. Most importantly, they will appreciate you for getting this book for them.

If you are a teenager, you will absolutely love the main character and her experiences. If you can relate to any of the details above, you should definitely get this book.

Even if you are not a parent or a teenager, you will enjoy this eventful, sporadic novel that will make you smile and that you will have a hard time putting down. Grab your copy today!

Book Review of “We the Consumers”

We the Consumers book“We the Consumers: What Happened to ‘We the People’?,” by Stephanie Dickert, is such an interesting book about the past and present economy in regards to personal finance. Interview with Yaron Levite

Interview with Yaron Levite

Yaron Levite is the author of THE MOHANDAS, a thriller set in the hottest current news item – The Gaza-Israeli conflict. On August 5th Yaron launched a Kickstarter campaign aimed at pre-selling enough copies of the book to fund its publication. Yaron lives with his partner and their 5 daughters in the beach side town of Herzliya.

Welcome all.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Yaron Levite author of The Mohandas, an Israeli-Palestinian thriller. Hi Yaron, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

First off – thanks for having me here, it’s absolutely great!

I was born in Cape Town, South Africa, (the most beautiful city on earth!) and when I turned twelve my parents decided to emigrate to Israel. So from polite, tea-and-scones little South Africa I found myself in the gruff, no-nonsense culture of Israel. What a shock!

After graduating from high school I served for three years in the Israeli Air Force, reaching 1st Sergeant before being discharged. I then surprised everyone, myself included, by getting accepted into Israel’s most prestigious school of acting where I trained for 3 years. Upon graduating I tried to work as a serious actor, but I became famous as the TV commercial king of Israel. Within 3 years I had starred in no less than 18 commercials. Actors used to groan when they saw me walk into the audition room. They knew their chances had just become slimmer…

But I had become bored with acting, stage or screen, so I began to look for something else. I stumbled into the field of multi-media show creation and I’ve been doing that for the last decade.

When did you decide to try your hand at writing a novel?

As a show director I discovered that I felt best when directing scripts I had written myself. It gave me more control over the artistic process. I have written over 100 scripts for more than 180 productions. Then I thought – what about a novel?

The MohandasWhat is The Mohandas about?

The Mohandas is a story about two young men from both sides of the Gaza-Israel border – Hashim, an eighteen year Palestinian high school graduate, and Shalev, an eighteen year old soldier in the IDF paratrooper brigade. The two cross paths and set off on a journey of mutual discovery. On the way they meet a variety of characters; a polls-addicted Prime Minster, an arch terrorist turned pacifist, an undercoer secret service agent and many more. It’s a very fast paced thriller.

How did you choose the subject for your book? Where did the idea come from?

I thought about what kind of book I would like to read. I love well written thrillers that leave you a little smarter when you complete reading them. Take The Da Vinci Code for example – thrilling? Yes. Illuminating? Yes! So I tried to work out what subject am I familiar with, a subject that could hold people’s interest while educating. The answer came in a flash – the Israeli Palestinian conflict. It is a subject I am very familiar with, and I realized that I have a unique opportunity to change the way people see the conflict, to show the world what the situation is really like.

What is the situation really like?

As I sit for this interview there are rockets flying over the border from both sides. It is very depressing that things seem to be getting worse, the hate and mistrust growing on both sides. The situation is complex – we live in a land where people live history, where people hold centuries-old grudges. It’s an impossible conflict in which everyone is right and everyone is wrong. And the world doesn’t seem to be helping. It amazes me the stuff I read online, the things people are ready to believe. So I am using the book to try and show a true, balanced picture of how life is in this corner of the globe.

But how can you, an Israeli, be balanced?

I think that as a former South African I have a perspective that people who were born and raised here don’t have. I’m a bit of an outsider. Always was. A few people living here have read the novel and no matter on what side they were, they were all pissed off. That’s a good sign, if I can cause both sides to get angry, I have done my work well…

What is Kickstarter, what is this campaign you’ve launched?

To simplify it – Kickstarter is a website that allows artists to raise capital by pre-selling their product. It works like this – I have set a monetary goal. People who would like to read my book invest money through the Kickstarter website. If I reach my goal, I receive the money, publish the novel and send it to all my backers. It’s basically buying a book before it’s been published.

And if you don’t meet your goal?

Touch wood it won’t happen! But if I don’t meet my goal, my backers are not charged, and I get nothing.

Good luck with your campaign. One last message you’d like to send?

Last message? The Engineer is an action packed novel, but it is also a book with a purpose. With the historical hatred and violence between the two nations sharing this tiny piece of land, it is my hope that anyone who reads the book will glean insights about the realities of the Middle Eastern conflict. It’s a small step towards peace but hey, you got to start somewhere.

Oh, and to go to the Kickstarter Campaign, click here!

Again – thanks for having me!

“Freedom from Fat: Part 1”

Yes, there is now a “Part 1” in the title. This is because I decided to make “Freedom from Fat” into two parts: my weight loss journey and my maintenance journey.

I have finished the first draft of Part 1! It is about my journey of losing 100 pounds. It is a compilation of journal entries (from my FatSecret account) and blog posts (from my health blog), which were already edited when I originally wrote them, so a quick proofread is all that will be needed. The book is approximately 51,000 words. I’m excited about publishing it, which, because of my busy schedule with my freelance publishing services career, will be in 2015.

Part 1 ends in the beginning of 2014. Part 2, I’ve just begun. I’ve written approximately 7,000 words towards it. I don’t have an idea of how much time in my life the book will span, but I’m still including what is currently going on in my life in the book. I’m guessing it will include about two years of my journey, so 2016 is the anticipated year that I’ll be finished with the first draft. So you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy Part 1 before Part 2 comes out!

I hope these books will help and inspire others to lose their excess weight and become healthier, and keep the weight off, which is the reason for the book about maintenance, because, essentially, that is the most important part. Anyone can lose weight, but most people struggle with keeping it off. Also, reaching a goal weight is hard too, which the weight loss book will help with.

I hope you will enjoy my two books when they come out. I have other books in the works, some that are farther along than “Freedom from Fat: Part 1,” so you may get to enjoy some more books before that one 🙂

I hope you’re enjoying your journey, whatever it may be!
